What does a technical architect do?
A technical architect designs how a software system fits together before it is built: its structure, how it integrates with existing systems, how data flows through it, where it is hosted and how it is secured. At Digital Fishies, Tony Norcross combines that design work with 30 years of hands-on web development, so the designs are practical to build and maintain.
How do you use AI in software development?
I use AI coding tools to generate and construct code, from rapid prototypes to production features and legacy modernisation. I give the AI precise specifications, review every change as an experienced developer would, and test the result, so it meets the same standard as hand-written code while being delivered faster.
Is AI-generated code reliable enough for production?
Yes, when it is properly directed and checked. Reliability comes from clear specifications, expert review and thorough testing rather than from the AI alone. For example, when this website was rebuilt with AI assistance, every page of the new version was compared against the original before it went live.
Can you take over or modernise an existing application?
Yes. I have taken over long-running client applications and modernised them, for example replacing a single Web Forms page with Web API controllers and upgrading VBA Office add-ins to C#. I have also rebuilt a website on .NET 10 when only its compiled files had survived.
Which technologies do you work with?
Mainly .NET: ASP.NET Core, MVC, Web API and Web Forms with C#, backed by Microsoft SQL Server. On the front end I use JavaScript, HTML, CSS and Bootstrap, and I deploy to Azure with Microsoft Entra ID for sign-in where needed. See architecture, AI and technologies for more.
Where are you based, and who do you work with?
Digital Fishies is based in Nottingham, UK, and works with clients worldwide, including banks, design agencies and individual entrepreneurs. We can meet in person or virtually.
How does working together work?
Work is charged at an agreed hourly rate and invoiced monthly, with invoices settled within 30 days. We agree an initial project or phase, review progress together during development, and you receive the source code on completion. Work is kept confidential by default.
